“Reincarnation” is a compilation of essays and lectures on the topic of reincarnation authored by Annie Besant. A socialist and feminist activist during her early youth, in 1889 the life trajectory of Annie Besant (1847-1933) suffered a drastic shift when she was asked to write a professional review of the magnum opus of theosophical teachings entitled “The Secret Doctrine” by Madame Blavatsky. It is said that as Besant turned page after page, it was as if a long lost vision of truth flashed through her mind, thus becoming an eager student of Theosophy for the rest of her life, and even becoming the second international president of the Theosophical Society in 1907. Appreciated by Mahatma Gandhi, who said that “she awakened Indian people from their deep slumber,” a few years later Annie Besant became the legal guardian of a young boy called Jiddu Krishnamurti, who would grow to become one of the greatest and most authentic sages of the XX century.

The present volume is formed of four essays which, when considered together, offer a comprehensible introduction into the topic of Reincarnation as defended by modern Theosophy and the esoteric teachings of many spiritual traditions. The lectures and essays contained in this volume—which in the present edition benefit from annotations by Sonchis Triacorda—are commonly known as:

  1. Proofs of the Existence of the Soul
  2. The Seven Principles of Man
  3. Reincarnation
  4. Man and His Bodies
